Cyber Monday vs Black Friday for Local Stores

Cyber Monday vs Black Friday for local stores: what each day is in 2026, which one suits a shop floor or a small web shop, a four-day plan from 27 to 30 November, and the pricing rules in France, the UK, the US and Ghana.

Short answer: for a local store, Black Friday (27 November 2026) is the day to bring people through the door, and Cyber Monday (30 November 2026) is the day to sell to people who stayed home. You do not have to pick one. Run one offer across the four days, and change the channel, not the discount.

Last updated: 9 October 2026

If you run a shop with a counter, a window and maybe a small web shop, the big brands make this weekend sound like a contest you cannot win. You can, if you use each day for what it is good at. This guide compares Cyber Monday vs Black Friday for local stores, explains where Small Business Saturday fits, and gives you a simple four-day plan.

Key takeaways

  • Black Friday is Friday 27 November 2026, Small Business Saturday (US) is 28 November, and Cyber Monday is Monday 30 November. The UK's Small Business Saturday is later, on 5 December.
  • In the US, Black Friday 2025 drew the most in-store shoppers (NRF), and Cyber Monday was the biggest online day (Adobe).
  • A local store should run Friday and Saturday in the shop, then use Sunday and Monday to reach people online and by message.
  • The same pricing rules apply on every day of the weekend. Check them before you print a single "was" price.

What is the difference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday?

Black Friday is the Friday after US Thanksgiving, and it grew up as an in-store day. Cyber Monday is the Monday after the same weekend, and it was named for online shopping. In 2026, US Thanksgiving falls on Thursday 26 November, according to the US Office of Personnel Management's holiday calendar, so the dates are fixed:

Day Date in 2026 What it is Best use for a local store
Black Friday Friday 27 November The day after US Thanksgiving; now global Your strongest in-store offer
Small Business Saturday (US) Saturday 28 November The Saturday after Thanksgiving, started by American Express A "shop local" story, events, tastings
Sunday Sunday 29 November No name, but busy online Reminders to people who did not come in
Cyber Monday Monday 30 November The Monday after Thanksgiving weekend; online Web shop, click and collect, gift cards
Small Business Saturday UK Saturday 5 December First Saturday in December in the UK A second local push, a week later

Two things trip people up. First, the UK's Small Business Saturday is not the US one: the official UK campaign site lists 5 December 2026. Second, in France none of these days are "soldes". They are ordinary promotions, which changes the rules you follow (more on that below).

Is Cyber Monday better than Black Friday?

Cyber Monday is better for online sales, and Black Friday is better for foot traffic. The US numbers show the split clearly. Adobe Analytics measured $11.8 billion of US online spending on Black Friday 2025 and $14.25 billion on Cyber Monday, the biggest online day it has recorded. The National Retail Federation's survey of the same weekend found Black Friday was still the busiest day for in-store shoppers.

In-store shoppers over the US Thanksgiving weekend 2025 Black Friday drew 80.3 million in-store shoppers, Saturday 62.7 million and Sunday 32.6 million, per the National Retail Federation. In-store shoppers, US, Thanksgiving weekend 2025 (millions) 80.3 Black Friday 62.7 Saturday 32.6 Sunday Source: NRF and Prosper Insights, survey of 3,099 US adults, 26-30 Nov 2025
Black Friday is still the biggest in-store day in the US, and Saturday is not far behind. NRF did not report an in-store count for Cyber Monday; it counted 75.9 million online shoppers that day.

The same NRF survey counted 85.7 million online shoppers on Black Friday 2025, and 75.9 million on Cyber Monday. So the line between the days is blurring: people shop online on Friday and walk into stores on Saturday. For a local shop, that is good news. You do not need to win one day. You need to be visible across all four.

These are US figures. We did not find equally solid public numbers for France, the UK or Ghana, so treat them as a direction, not a forecast for your town.

Which day suits your kind of store?

Your channels decide it, not the calendar. Use this table to see where to put your effort.

Your store Black Friday Small Business Saturday Cyber Monday
Shop floor only, no web shop Main day: window, flyer, in-store offer Main day: local event, "shop local" posts Send a message to regulars; take orders by phone or WhatsApp for pickup
Shop floor plus a small web shop In-store offer, same offer online Event in store, posts pointing to the web shop Main online day: web shop, click and collect
Mostly online, small showroom Online offer starts, showroom open Optional Main day
Services (salon, repair, studio) Gift cards and bookings Gift cards Gift cards online

If you have no web shop, Cyber Monday is still useful. Customers can reserve by message and collect in store. That keeps the sale local and the margin yours.

A four-day plan for 27 to 30 November 2026

Treat the weekend as one campaign with four moments. Here is the order we suggest.

Four-day plan from Black Friday to Cyber Monday 2026 Friday 27 November in store, Saturday 28 shop local, Sunday 29 reminders online, Monday 30 online and click and collect. Fri 27 Sat 28 Sun 29 Mon 30 Black Friday in store Shop local event, regulars Reminders posts, messages Cyber Monday online, pickup
One offer, four channels: in store first, online last.
  1. Choose one offer for the whole weekend. Pick a few products you can afford to discount and keep the offer the same from Friday to Monday. One clear offer is easier to print, post and explain at the till.
  2. Friday 27: make the shop the star. Put the offer in the window and on a flyer at the counter. Post it in the morning, before people leave home. Our Black Friday flyer text examples show wording you can copy.
  3. Saturday 28: tell the local story. In the US, lean on Small Business Saturday. Elsewhere, the same idea works: a tasting, a demo, a "thank you" for regulars. Show your team and your street, which big brands cannot do.
  4. Sunday 29: remind, do not repeat. Many people browse on Sunday. Send one reminder to customers who agreed to hear from you. Our guide to Black Friday WhatsApp messages for retailers covers opt-in and timing.
  5. Monday 30: open the online door. Put the same offer on your web shop, or take orders by message for pickup. Promote gift cards for people buying for Christmas.
  6. Track each day separately. Use a different coupon code per day or per channel. On Tuesday you will know which day earned its place next year.

Pricing rules that apply on every day of the weekend

A discount is a promise, and every market polices it. The rules below do not change between Friday and Monday.

  • France. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are promotions, not soldes. Using the word "soldes" outside the two legal sale periods is forbidden, Service-Public's justice.fr guide confirms, and "Black Friday" is given as an allowed name. Every price cut must show the reference price, which is the lowest price you charged in the 30 days before the cut (DGCCRF). Selling below your purchase price is also banned in a promotion, with a few exceptions.
  • United Kingdom. Since 6 April 2025 the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act applies. The CMA's guidance lists a false "limited time" claim as always unfair, including a countdown clock that simply restarts. If your Black Friday offer quietly continues into December, do not say it ends on Monday.
  • United States. The FTC's Guides Against Deceptive Pricing say a "was" price must be a real price you offered openly for a reasonably long time. Raising a price for a week to show a bigger cut is the textbook example of a fake bargain.
  • Ghana. We found no Black Friday rule as such. Direct marketing needs consent: the Data Protection Act 2012 requires prior written consent before personal data is used for direct marketing, per the Chambers 2025 guide. Ask before you add customers to a broadcast list. Note too that Farmers' Day, a public holiday, falls on Friday 4 December 2026.

Your next step

Cyber Monday vs Black Friday for local stores is not an either-or choice: run one offer across the four days, with the shop floor leading on Friday and Saturday and messages or your web shop leading on Monday. This week, write down the offer, the end time and one coupon code per day.

FAQ

Is Cyber Monday better than Black Friday for a small business?

It depends on where you sell. For a shop floor, Black Friday brings the most walk-in shoppers. For a web shop, Cyber Monday is usually stronger: Adobe measured $14.25 billion of US online spending on Cyber Monday 2025, against $11.8 billion on Black Friday. Most local stores do best running both.

When is Cyber Monday in 2026?

Cyber Monday 2026 is Monday 30 November. It is always the Monday after US Thanksgiving weekend, and Thanksgiving falls on Thursday 26 November 2026. Black Friday is Friday 27 November, and the US Small Business Saturday is Saturday 28 November, so the whole weekend runs from Friday to Monday.

Can I do Cyber Monday without a website?

Yes. Send your offer to customers who agreed to hear from you, by email or WhatsApp, and let them reserve by message and collect in store. Post the same offer on your social pages. You keep the sale local, avoid delivery costs and still reach people who shop from home on Monday.

Should Black Friday deals carry on to Cyber Monday?

They can, as long as you say so honestly. Announce the real end date from the start, for example "Friday to Monday". In the UK, falsely claiming an offer ends soon is banned outright. In France, the reference price must stay the lowest price of the previous 30 days.

Is Small Business Saturday on the same day in the UK?

No. In the US it is the Saturday after Thanksgiving, which is 28 November 2026. In the UK, Small Business Saturday is the first Saturday in December, so 5 December 2026, according to the official UK campaign. UK shops can use it as a second local push a week later.
