Canva for Shop Owners: What It Does and What It Doesn’t

Canva is the default design tool for shops, and deservedly so. From Canva’s own help centre: what it does well for a retailer, the five things it leaves you doing by hand each week, and when a shop needs more.

Ask ten shop owners what they use for their Instagram posts and window flyers, and most will say Canva. It is free to start, it is in French, and it has a template for everything. That popularity is deserved. It also hides a question that matters more the bigger your product list gets: what does Canva actually do for a shop, and what does it leave you doing by hand every week?

This is a straight look at Canva for shop owners, based on Canva's own help centre and pricing page, checked on 3 September 2026. Every claim links to its source. It is not a takedown: Canva is a very good editor, and for many shops it is enough. The point is to know where "enough" ends.

What Canva is, for a shop

Canva is a design editor built around templates. You pick a format (an Instagram post, an A4 flyer, a story), pick a template, change the words and pictures, and export or share. Around that core, Canva has added the pieces a small business asks for: a Brand Kit for your colours and fonts, a scheduler called Content Planner, a print service, AI tools, and Bulk Create, which fills one template from a spreadsheet.

On the French pricing page, the free plan costs nothing and includes the editor, over a million templates and one Brand Kit. Canva Pro is 110 € per year for one person and adds premium templates, Bulk Create, social scheduling and more storage, with a free trial. Pro+ is 170 € per year per person and adds team tools and 10% off print orders.

What Canva does well for a shop

Templates for every format, in French. The interface, the help centre and the template library all exist in French. A shop with no designer can produce a clean post in minutes and a decent flyer in an hour.

Brand Kit. Your logo, colours and fonts are stored once and applied to templates, so the Tuesday post and the Saturday flyer look like the same shop.

Bulk Create. This is Canva's answer to "I have forty products on sale". According to the Bulk Create help page, you upload a CSV, an Excel file or a Canva Sheet, link columns to text and image placeholders, and Canva generates one page or one design per row, up to 300 rows and 150 columns, on Pro and above. Prices can be a column, as long as you type them in the spreadsheet.

Content Planner. On Pro, Canva schedules designs to Facebook Pages, Instagram Business accounts, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Slack and Tumblr, according to the Content Planner help page. You set the date and time, write a caption, and Canva posts it.

Print. Canva Print delivers within Europe, per Canva's shipping regions page, and any design exports as a PDF for your local printer.

Shopify Connect. Canva's Shopify integration page describes a free app that makes your Shopify product images, videos and titles searchable inside Canva and lets you export designs back to product pages.

What Canva does not do for a shop

Each of the gaps below is a consequence of Canva being an editor, not a catalogue tool. Each is checked against the help page in the last column.

What a shop needs What Canva documents What that means on Thursday Source
Prices from the store Shopify Connect brings images, videos and titles. Bulk Create reads a spreadsheet you build, as a one-time sync. You type this week's prices into a CSV, and again next week. Shopify Connect · Bulk Create

The first row is the one to sit with. Bulk Create is a real time-saver for a one-off batch: forty name badges, a set of price tags for the January sale. It is a poor fit for a job that repeats every week with different numbers, because the spreadsheet is the catalogue, and nothing keeps it current except you.

Who should stay on Canva

Most shops should keep Canva, and many should keep only Canva. If your product range is stable, if you post to one or two networks, if you like having your hands on the design, and if a Thursday afternoon on the promo does not bother you, Canva Pro at 110 € a year is honestly hard to beat. It is also the best tool on this page for anything that is not a product promo: an event poster, a recruitment notice, a menu.

Who needs more than Canva

The shop that outgrows Canva is the one whose marketing is mostly products and prices. Forty offers a week, a flyer in the window and one at the till, posts on four networks plus a WhatsApp broadcast, and a French customer base reading a catalogue that came in from Shopify in English. At that point the editor is not the bottleneck. The retyping is.

How Liflio fits

Liflio starts from the catalogue instead of the template. It imports products and prices from Shopify and WooCommerce (PrestaShop in beta), generates posts and print-ready A4 flyers in French from those products, schedules and publishes them directly to eight channels including WhatsApp Business and Telegram, and can list catalogues, coupons and price cuts on Liflio Deals, the consumer offers site at liflio.fr. Product names are translated at generation. It is paid, from 29 € a month with a short card-backed trial, and it is not an editor: Canva stays better for moving a logo by hand.

Plenty of shops use both. Canva for the one-off pieces, a catalogue-first tool for the weekly offers. If you want to see the flyer side specifically, AI Flyer Generator for Shops: Professional Designs in Minutes walks through it, and our sourced comparison with Google Pomelli shows how the same questions play out against a generator rather than an editor.

Spending Thursday afternoons retyping prices into templates? Try Liflio with your own catalogue and let the products carry their prices onto every post and flyer themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Canva free for a small business?

Yes. Canva's French pricing page lists a free plan with the editor, over a million templates and one Brand Kit. Scheduling, Bulk Create, premium templates and background removal need Canva Pro, listed at 110 € per year for one person with a free trial. Pro+ at 170 € per year adds team tools and a print discount.

Can Canva schedule posts for my shop?

On Pro and above, Content Planner schedules to Facebook Pages, Instagram Business accounts, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Slack and Tumblr. Each design goes to one platform at a time, Instagram Reels, Stories and multi-image posts cannot be scheduled, and TikTok is not on the list, according to Canva's help page in September 2026.

Can Canva import products and prices from my store?

Shopify Connect for Canva brings product images, videos and titles into Canva, not prices. Bulk Create fills a template from a spreadsheet you supply, up to 300 rows, as a one-time sync. Prices appear on designs only if you put them in the spreadsheet, and they do not update when your store changes.

Can I print flyers with Canva in France?

Yes. Canva's shipping page lists Europe among the regions where designs are printed and delivered locally, and any design exports as a PDF for a local printer. A4 flyer templates are included. Pro+ and Enterprise plans get 10% off print orders where Canva Print is available.

When does a shop need something other than Canva?

When the weekly marketing is mostly products with changing prices, across several channels, in French, with a flyer to print. Canva is an editor, so every one of those steps is a manual pass. A catalogue-first tool takes the products and prices from the store and produces the posts, the flyer and the deals listing from the same source.
